The hurdles seem to be dropping.  The final turn is being rounded.  The finish line (actually a starting line) seems closer than ever.

Of course, there are no guarantees in this mad endeavor called “filmmaking,” a pursuit that is a pricey shotgun marriage between business and art.  But we’ve reached a critical mass of enthusiasm and resource needed to launch a movie.  If we go now, we can make it now.  If we don’t, we may never.  And trust me, we’re all keenly aware of that.

Yeah, I had some good face-time with Vin in NYC.  We talked at length about where we go from here – about how to travel to all the places in the RIDDICK universe that needed travelling to – and we think we know have the Master Map.  We’ll keep it tucked tightly in our breast pocket for now, but it’s enough to say that, if we can pull it all off, you’ll have spent a good 15 years with us.

But Vin will be the driving force behind this next movie; I’m merely the writer-director.  Am I being facetious?  Kinda.  But kinda not, too:  It’s Vin and the concessions he chooses to make that will allow this movie to go forward.  And his love of the character, of course.  So if you, too, have a soft spot for this hardened criminal, you might want to weigh in over at that giant-ass Facebook page he’s got.  Me?  I’m still part of the Facebook Resistance.

I do get your emails of encouragement from seemingly all corners of the world.  (Last week, Lithuania was heard from.  I had to use Google Maps.)  I can’t always respond, but I do read just about everything that comes in.  And I’m always quietly startled by the reach my films have – by how raw imagination alloyed with damn hard work can result in a product that travels the globe and excites the phosphors of so many screens as it excites the imaginations of so many who watch.

Above is a piece of art I did for Vin to help him see some of the visuals I carry around in my head night and day.  Titled “Fifth Horseman,” it’s a tableau from the next movie.

    Thanks for the update, David!

I really hope that you can finally shoot the movie this summer. Vin seems to be willing to make concessions and take a pay cut. He loves the character (you probably know this better than anyone else) and has been talking about the next RIDDICK since Chronicles came out basically – in the press as well as on his Facebook page.

Most of the Facebook fans have been posting about their desire for a new Riddick movie since Vin’s page exists and we continue to do so.

It’s a great franchise with a great fanbase, so hopefully you can solve the last little problems and start the production now 🙂

Thanks, as a Riddick fan I wanna see more to my friends this franchise is a treasured gem as well in thier DVD collection, I couldnt tell you how many times I seen them or played the Escape from Butchers Bay game.

I would like to urge everyone on ( even I can come help for free if needed) to add another adventure to this series for fans and future fans to come.

Im excited, I hope it does work out since the decline over the past few years of sci-fi action (ie Heroes,Sarah Conner Cronicles, V, Firefly ) This is one series I hope holds true and steady and seeing a path to the stars I should say…

How awesome to see an update regarding Riddick from your side! Being one of the admins from vinxperience.net I can assure you the Vin Diesel fans are eagerly awaiting a new Riddick movie, as he still is one of the favourite characters.
As Mario already mentioned – we are hoping you’ll be able to sort out the last problems quickly!

I’m a HUGE Riddick fan–have you thought about supporting the franchise with books? They can really help bridge the gap between movies and keep the character out there.

David, I’m just fan here to make a little noise in support of a third Riddick film. This ticket is already sold. Pitch Black was pitch perfect and Chronicles was very cool. Bring on the fifth horseman!

I just can’t wait for the next Riddick movie. There’s a dearth of truly ballsy sci-fi movies these days, so Riddick’s return is needed.
Thanks Mr. Twohy for the update. You don’t make nearly enough films !

Oh how I love Riddick. I never tire of watching Pitch Black either and use more lines from that movie than probably any other. Wrote about my Riddick obsession: http://www.actionmoviefreak.com/riddick.html Thanks for a really enjoyable ride on that movie. I look forward to another chase 🙂

I have heard rumor that you would shoot some in saskatchewan. If this is true I offer my services to work on the film for free! I can do second unit stuff, editing, sound design, fx work or even make a mean coffee. Plus I know all the good locations in the province!

This would truly be a wonderful, wonderful thing. I’ll stay hopeful. It would be nice, if things didn’t come to pass, if someone could at least release a novel or two to wraps things up.

Great you’re back on Riddick, awesome! you should do some kind of fight scene on the traveling rings with Vin and Bruno Angelico flying, flipping in the air, kicking etc. This has never been done in a movie! This would be a first! Vin would love it! You ‘d be the first in the world to do it ! Bruno Angelico is the ultimate master in world with this stuf check these links to get a rough idea. Best to you guys!
